Video to SRT in three steps
- Drop in your video (MP4, MOV or WebM). It is read by your browser; nothing uploads.
- Review the transcript. Speech is transcribed automatically with a timestamp for every word. Click any line to correct it.
- Download .SRT or .VTT. From the Export button. Both are free, with no limit on how many you make.
SRT or VTT?
| SRT (.srt) | WebVTT (.vtt) | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut, CapCut | Web players (HTML5 video), Vimeo, video on your own site |
| Format | Numbered cues, comma before milliseconds | “WEBVTT” header, dot before milliseconds |
| Supported everywhere? | Almost everywhere | Every modern browser |
Not sure? Download SRT. You can grab both; they come from the same transcript.
Why use this instead of an online SRT generator
- Your video isn't uploaded. Interviews, client work and unreleased videos stay on your machine.
- No minute limits or credits. Online generators meter transcription because it runs on their servers. This runs on yours.
- Short, readable cues. Lines are split at natural pauses and punctuation, so they read well on screen without re-timing.
- Burned-in captions too. If you'd rather have the captions in the video itself, export an MP4 with animated word-by-word captions instead.
Using the SRT file
- YouTube: YouTube Studio → Subtitles → Add language → Upload file → With timing.
- Premiere Pro: File → Import the .srt, then drag it onto the timeline above your video.
- DaVinci Resolve: File → Import → Subtitle, then drag it onto the timeline.
- CapCut (desktop): import the .srt from the Captions panel, then adjust the style.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Unlimited SRT and VTT files, no account, no credits and no watermark.
Which languages work?
Speech is transcribed in many languages automatically, most accurately in English. You can correct any word before downloading.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The speech model runs in your browser, on your device. The video never reaches a server.
How long can the video be?
There is no fixed limit; it depends on your device’s memory. A desktop computer handles long videos best.
Does it work in Safari or Firefox?
Yes, for SRT and VTT. Exporting an MP4 with burned-in captions needs Chrome or Edge.
